Kyiv Metro - (Kiev Metro)
May 12, 2008
The Kyiv (Kiev) Metro system is the main method of getting about quickly in this great capital.
The metro (underground) carries about a third of the public transport daily. This is about 1,700,000 people!
There are 65 stations and the system is built to the highest (Russian ) standards. Some may laugh at this, but on projects of this size the Russians are experts.
First they built Moscow Underground (Metro) system, then St.Petersburg, then Kyiv (Kiev)
In fact, having regularly travelled on Kyiv’s underground, it is far superior to anything France or the United Kingdom can offer, on all fronts!
The metro is clean and spacious. In fact the tunnels and platforms are so spacious and large they put other european underground systems to shame.
Ticket Prices:
Ticket prices
A one-way ticket in the Kiev Metro costs 0.50 Hryvnias regardless of destination, this is equivalent to about 10 pence (U.K) & 20 cents (U.S).
So 1 stop or 65 stops, it doesn’t matter.
Plastic tokens are used for the turnstiles. The tokens can be bought from the cashiers window, or at automatic exchange machines, which exchange 1 and 2 Hryvnia bills into tokens. In addition to the tokens on some stations, some of the turnstiles are designed to accept 50 kopiykas coins.
For regular travellers, monthly metro passes with a magnetic string are available.
Pensioners get free travel.

It would help, really, really REALLY a lot, if all the signs and arrows weren’t exculsively in Cyrillic letters!
